Setting up your YouTube channel

Video content is hot - so how do you take advantage of this?

Video is EVERYWHERE these days - long form, short form, social media, podcasts, vlogs, and more. Let’s learn more about the value of video and how to get started with your own content!

Why video?

Well, obviously it’s fun and entertaining, but here are three compelling reasons why it can be a powerful tool for your business:

  1. Video is a wonderful medium for sharing information, particularly visual content. How-to videos are among the most popular on YouTube, where someone walks you through a process like changing the oil in your car, showing you every step along the way.

  2. People learn and absorb information in different ways: reading, doing, seeing… if you are working to educate your audience about something, it’s terrific to have all modalities available. This would be like a blog post that includes a video and exercises, or a video that also has the written transcript available. (AI makes this easy, by the way!)

  3. For companies, showing humans in videos about the company builds trust - this is especially true for coaches, therapists, realtors, and others who do what we call “relationship selling.”

Where do I start?

If your site is on Squarespace, you likely have a small amount of native video storage included in your plan. You could use that for standard content creation that will remain in place for a while (a video tour of your facility, for example). But if you plan to vlog, or create a course that is video-heavy, or include videos in your blog posts, you will want to activate your YouTube channel and host videos there.

You can still embed these videos directly into your website pages, just like this one below. 👇

What’s next

Congratulations! Now that you have your Channel up and running, you’re ready to create content and distribute that content. We’ll cover those steps in future blog posts, so stay tuned!
